Casemiro into top 10

DECEMBER 6, 2017 - Few European football fans knew him, when he was loaned by Real Madrid in January 2013. Now Casemiro has established himself as a key player for the Spanish champions and in the Brazilian national team.

This month he underlines his status as a world class midfielder by entering the TFR PLAYERS top 10 for the first time ever replacing his Barcelona colleague, Sergio Busquets. The Blaugrana midfielder drops to the 13th spot after only one month among the top 10 best players in the world.

Apart from this change the December rankings are very similar to November’s except from a spot swap between Dries Mertens and Marc André ter-Stegen. Mertens has taken over from the German goalkeeper in the 6th spot.

Just outside top 10 the Tottenham duo, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, are the highest ranked players in the 11th and 12th spot respectively.

Although players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, Antoine Griezmann and Neymar more or less are in the same spots as by the end of 2016-17, their scores reveal another story: 2017-18 has so far been a disappointing experience.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suárez have performed way below the level of last season.

Suárez has lost 342 points, Ronaldo 232 and Griezmann 110. Neymar has been successful in his new job at Paris St.-Germain but has lost 272 points, mainly because the French Ligue 1 is less competitive than Primera Division in Spain.

Since the 2016-17 rankings Toni Kroos, Alexis Sánchez and Koke have been replaced in the top 10 by Marc-André ter Stegen, Harry Kane and Casemiro.
