DID YOU KNOW ?

Petr Cech was born a triplet along with Sarka and a brother named Michal who died aged two after contracting an infection in the hospital.

He first started as a striker due to his height. But by the age of 14 he grew from 180 to 196 cm. He then from time to time appeared as a goal keeper in training, and his talent was quickly noticed.

Cech began his international career in the U-16s, working his way up each age group level before making his senior debut in February 2002.

He first came to prominence as a 20 year old at the 2002 U-21 European Championships when his penalty shoot-out heroics in the final against France earned the Czech Republic their first title at youth level.

After an injury that nearly cost him his life Cech has been wearing a rugby style headguard since 2007 when playing. In a match against Reading in 2006 he was hit by opponent Stephen Hunts knee in the head.
