DID YOU KNOW ?

Gerard Piqué was raised in a wealthy Catalan family. His father, Joan, is a lawyer, and his mother, Montserrat, is the director of a prestigious spinal injuries hospital.

His grandfather, Amador Bernabeu, is the former vice-president of Barcelona.

Piqué started his career in FC Barcelona's youth teams as a defensive midfielder, but before he signed his first professional contract with the club, he decided to join Manchester United.

Gerard was the third player – after Marcel Desailly and Paulo Sousa – to win the UEFA Champions League two years in a row with different teams.

He has known his best friend, Spanish national teammate and Arsenal player Cesc Fàbregas, since childhood.
